Karyn Maertens, Faculty

Ballet

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ms. Karyn is a graduate of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Teacher Training Program and current teaching faculty member of the RWB’s Recreational Division.

Dancing from the age of three, Karyn has trained in the disciplines of ballet, pointe, jazz, contemporary, modern and hip hop and has competed in numerous competitions across Canada and North America. During her time in the Teacher Training Program, Karyn had the opportunity to train extensively with members of the RWB’s prestigious faculty in the styles of both Vaganova and Cecchetti ballet. She has achieved her Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 Cecchetti ballet examinations as well as her Associate teaching qualifications from the Cecchetti Society of Canada.

Karyn has taught students, from toddler to teen, in many disciplines including creative movement, pre-ballet,
jazz, tap and lyrical. In January, 2017, Karyn was also given the opportunity to be a teacher for the RWB’s Sharing Dance program, which works in coordination with the National Ballet School in Toronto to bring quality dance education to public schools across Canada.

Karyn has really appreciated the opportunity to teach such a wide range of ages and dance abilities, as she feels
it has challenged her as a teacher and has truly helped her grow and develop her skills. Karyn is
very excited to be joining this incredible faculty and cannot wait to bring her knowledge of and
enthusiasm for dance to the Winnipeg Dance Force family!
